This made me reflect on how far React thinking is from where I am. Early returns lend to architectural inefficiency. It pulls decisions upward, when the farther decisions are pushed down the more optimal they can be. It might not impact React but it doesn't leave a way forward.
📚 I love component composition in React, and I think we should use it a lot more before littering our components with conditional renderings for mutually exclusive states. As a follow-up to a tweet from this week, here's the full blogpost: tkdodo.eu/blog/component-com…

In Somerset, a giant science experiment to tackle flooding began 10 years ago. Rather than trying to resist the sea, a large tract of land was surrendered to it. Lots of people were opposed. The local MP called it “an extravagant, ridiculous scheme”🧵

POV: the senior engineer is giving you a tour of the data stack
Svelte report from the field: • A huge consumer hardware company just went live in 10 markets with @sveltejs on @vercel 🫡… ultra smooth • Recently heard 2 of the largest news organizations in the world are svelte-pilled and going all-in
The @sveltejskit hype and developer love is well justified. Every day I'm hearing from companies that they're going all-in and succeeding in production. And each week it seems the apps and companies adopting it are bigger. 2023 will be a great year for the Svelte community!
Is it time for the protein emoji to return? Can we overcome the past unicode rejection now with the tailwinds of the Nobel Prize? Can proteins be recognized as important as 🫘 or 🙎or 🥀?
Looks like SQLite is getting native replication support! Awesome! sqlite.org/draft/rsync.html

Your periodic reminder that #covid is still a thing. If you have symptoms (running nose, headache, throatache, fever), wear masks and test yourself.

This summer, we dropped 4 videos in the Prismic 🧡 Svelte series with @Rich_Harris, offering expert insights every serious developer should tap into. Rich breaks down why simplicity, performance, and clarity are the future of web development, and how Svelte’s lean design is leading the charge. He also shares the thought process behind Svelte 5’s "runes," offering insider tips on how this reactivity breakthrough will boost app performance. Whether you're weighing Svelte vs React or thinking of building your own framework, the advice here is simply unmatched. Links to the full series in the thread!

New cycling cartoon. From my newsletter, but I don’t think the algorithm approves of that sort of thing.
