ok now google is doing the thing that makes no fucking sense like, yes! I want this to work, but not a single one of these explains how to solve the thermal problem
Our TPUs are headed to space!  Inspired by our history of moonshots, from quantum computing to autonomous driving, Project Suncatcher is exploring how we could one day build scalable ML compute systems in space, harnessing more of the sun’s power (which emits more power than 100 trillion times humanity’s total electricity production). Like any moonshot, it’s going to require us to solve a lot of complex engineering challenges. Early research shows our Trillium-generation TPUs (our tensor processing units, purpose-built for AI) survived without damage when tested in a particle accelerator to simulate low-earth orbit levels of radiation. However, significant challenges still remain like thermal management and on-orbit system reliability.  More testing and breakthroughs will be needed as we count down to launch two prototype satellites with @planet by early 2027, our next milestone of many. Excited for us to be a part of all the innovation happening in (this) space!

I think if you zoomed into the paper too you’d find it just as if not more interesting.

Parallel computation of nonlinear RNNs by turning application of RNN over sequence of length L into L nonlinear equations and solving it with Newton's method. If we can afford nonlinearities in RNNs then it could completely change state space model related work.

"professional development" day tomorrow so I will be continuing my nanochat mlx conversion all day

TL;DR: I made a Transformer that conditions its generation on latent variables. To do so an encoder Transformer only needs a source of randomness during generation, but then it needs an encoder for training, as a [conditional] VAE. 1/5

If true, then my high school classroom & curriculum is more modern than Stanford you can just do things
.@Stanford courses are high-quality but the policies are definitely outdated. I’m hearing of rampant blatant cheating happening where students are plugging the questions directly into ChatGPT during the midterms, but professors are not allowed to proctor the exams due to the honor code. The professors want to change the policy, but university bureaucracy has to go through a multi-year process before it can change.

Some days you really feel like we're seeing the future happen right before our eyes.
Plasma is better in colour! Watch one of our latest #plasma pulses in our ST40 tokamak, filmed using our new high-speed colour camera at an incredible 16,000 frames per second. Each pulse lasts around a fifth of a second. What you’re seeing is mostly visible light from the plasma’s edge, glowing pink. The core is simply too hot to emit visible light. In this footage, lithium is dropped into the plasma. As it interacts, it glows red when excited, then turns green as it becomes ionised, losing an electron. From there, it traces the magnetic field lines, revealing the plasma’s path around the tokamak. Lithium is the focus of our $52 million ST40 upgrade programme, in partnership with @ENERGY and @energygovuk. This builds on pioneering work at @PPPLab and others that has shown that lithium can significantly improve plasma performance. This video comes from ongoing research into X-point radiator (XPR) regimes, a promising operating mode for future #fusion power plants that aims to cool the plasma before it reaches plasma-facing components (PFCs), helping to reduce wear without compromising performance. Fusion research just got a lot more colourful! 👇 tokamakenergy.com/2025/10/15… #Fusion #FusionEnergy #EnergyTransition #Innovation
this is one of the most exciting things I've seen in a while
What if scaling the context windows of frontier LLMs is much easier than it sounds? We’re excited to share our work on Recursive Language Models (RLMs). A new inference strategy where LLMs can decompose and recursively interact with input prompts of seemingly unbounded length, as a REPL environment. On the OOLONG benchmark, RLMs with GPT-5-mini outperforms GPT-5 by over 110% gains (more than double!) on 132k-token sequences and is cheaper to query on average. On the BrowseComp-Plus benchmark, RLMs with GPT-5 can take in 10M+ tokens as their “prompt” and answer highly compositional queries without degradation and even better than explicit indexing/retrieval. We link our blogpost, (still very early!) experiments, and discussion below.

gonna wait for benchmarks but those neural accelerators might make me trade in
Apple introduces the new M5 chip GPU ~30% faster than M4 Much faster on-device AI 30% more unified memory bandwidth: 153GB/s They put the chip in: Vision Pro iPad Pro Macbook Pro apple.com/newsroom/2025/10/a…
is it burnout or am i just not sleeping enough
AI will make 1% of the population productive enough for the 99% to be lazy whether this is net positive or negative is still to be seen
AI use has doubled at work since 2023 from 21% to 40%, per Gallup, yet 95% of organizations don’t see a measurable return on their investment in the tech, per MIT Media Lab reporting.
