For those interested in some context on what this means for the Philippines, here’s an article I wrote up for @navalnewscom last year while the BrahMos missile base was still being stood up: navalnews.com/naval-news/202…

Our country has become heavily focused on offensive hardware, ships, aircraft, and strike capabilities, yet we fail to invest adequately in defensive systems, particularly land-to-air defense. A nation’s true strength is not just in its ability to strike, but in its capacity to protect. Without a layered air defense network, even the most advanced arsenal is vulnerable. Modern warfare demands balance: deterrence through strength, and survival through defense. Offense wins battles, but defense preserves sovereignty.

The Philippines quietly goes about improving its defenses. Hopefully it will find that the more it does for itself the more willing the US is to help out and show up at the ‘sharp end’ where Chinese bullying is the greatest rather than hiding behind the ‘armed attack’ sophistry.

These missiles wreaked havoc on Pakistani airbases in May earlier this year. Not a single one got intercepted, imagine what a salvo launch of Philippines’ Brahmos flying at Mach 3 can do to PLAN warships.

Now the missile is war tested too. Decimated Pakistani airbases and made the Chinese defense system look useless.
