Significant progress continues at Amherst College’s new Student Center & Dining Commons, a building that will serve as the heart of campus life. Rising from the repurposed structure of the former Merrill Science Center, the 144,000-square-foot project combines sustainable mass timber construction with advanced design to foster community, connection, and well-being.
Set between the upper quad and the new greenway, the building is taking shape as both a crossroads and a destination—linking dining, recreation, cultural, and community spaces in a cohesive, multi-level environment. From its low-carbon mass timber frame to its expansive terraces overlooking the Holyoke Range, every element is designed to enhance student life while advancing the college’s commitment to climate neutrality by 2030.
We’re proud to partner with Amherst, Sasaki, Herzog & de Meuron, and our many trade partners to bring this vision to life.
