If you have spent the last week watching with rage and anguish as some Jewish institutional leaders signal alarm about the slaughter they have abetted since October 8th, this piece is for you. It's about where we go from here, and why invest in Jewish institution building at all.
"We need new Jewish institutions . . . We need them not to exit Jewish community, but to join it in earnest, on our own terms. To transition from pockets of rebellion to poles of power." @ArielleLAngel on the structures we need to sustain our movements. jewishcurrents.org/we-need-n…

I don’t think it’s healthy for a party leader who actively recruits candidates for the most important races in the country to think of himself this way.

If you're a Jewish New Yorker who can't understand why people in your city voted for Zohran Mamdani, ask your children. They probably did too.
Arielle Angel retweeted
Centrists who are like “Dems have absolutely nothing to learn from Mamdani because the rest of the country isn’t New York City” - like, do you really think that mobilizing literally never-before-seen turnout among young people has zero application outside NYC?
More people voted on the final day of early voting in the 2025 mayoral general election (151K) than in the final day of early voting in the 2024 presidential general election (149K). That is insane. 2 million total votes is well within reach.

In Pew’s recent polling, 27% of Jews identified as “Jews not by religion” — marking “no religious affiliation” or “other,” then indicating Jewishness in a follow-up. The percent of Jews that voted Mamdani is likely closer to 40%.
Exit polls indicate Mamdani won nearly 1/3 of the Jewish vote. He probably won a majority of Jews under 30. The self-appointed leaders of the Jewish community don't speak for vast - vast - numbers of Jewish Americans.

Zohran Mamdani must be deported immediately. The only thing I want to see him running for is his gate at JFK for his deportation flight back to Uganda.

NEW from me, on the rabbis’ letter against Mamdani. The effort was organized by The Jewish Majority, which is led by an AIPAC alum. But the letter was also signed by 65 members of J Street’s rabbinic cabinet. jewishcurrents.org/anti-mamd…

Every one of these victims thought they had survived the genocide only to be killed in a “ceasefire”
Death toll from overnight’s Israeli bombardment has risen to 104, including 46 children and 20 women. The photo is that of a baby bottle belonging to a 1 year old boy killed when Israel targeted the “Ard al-Insan” camp, designated for kidney dialysis & cancer patients and orphans

They survived two years of genocide to be murdered during a “ceasefire.”
The twins Sham and Yahya Amin Abu Dalal were sleeping peacefully in their home tonight in the Al-Nuseirat Refugee Camp in central Gaza. Israel decided to violate the "ceasefire" and kill both of them along with their mother and father in an airstrike tonight.

Allies and critics alike have bought into the narrative of Israel as a hub of high-tech military "innovation." But, as the scholar @rhys_machold explains in his new piece, this story obscures the true motor powering Israel's violence: Western backing jewishcurrents.org/the-myth-…

Nearly 500 rabbis have signed this open letter against "rising anti-Zionism and its political normalization throughout our nation," explicitly citing Zohran Mamdani. What these rabbis are telling us is they do not care about 30-40% of American Jews. 🧵 1/ docs.google.com/document/u/0…

This letter evinces an unwillingness to engage productively with a very sizable portion of the J community & w/ the reality, confirmed by HR groups, that Israel is committing genocide. Instead, these rabbis project their anxieties outward & demand fealty. It won't work long term.

They call on interfaith partners to support them, knowing full well that they are creating a bar that cannot be met by most Muslim partners. They will then predictably complain about isolation. 6/

Cosgrove insists his Zionism is a matter of Jewish identity. This is a dangerous argument, opening up all Jews to anti-Israel violence, while affirming the logic used in right-wing legal "religious liberty" assaults on universities jewishcurrents.org/a-dangero… jewishcurrents.org/the-tangl…
