⚠️WARNING: This post describes a fatal mass casualty crash.
UPDATE: Four people were killed and at least 13 others were injured after an alleged street racer, fleeing police, crashed his car into a packed gay bar in Tampa, Florida.
The "senseless tragedy" occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday at Bradley's on 7th Avenue.
Police identified the driver as Silas Sampson, 22. Officers from the Tampa Police Air Service had spotted Sampson street racing another car. A police cruiser attempted to stop him, but he fled at high speed.
The Florida Highway Patrol claims officers had "backed off" the pursuit just before Sampson lost control and plowed into the bar's patio, striking more than a dozen people.
Three victims died at the scene, and a fourth died at the hospital. Two others remain in critical condition.
Sampson was arrested and has been charged with four counts of vehicular homicide and aggravated fleeing. The bar's owners said the tragedy "has struck at the heart of Tampa’s LGBTQ+ community."
