Hooray! Thanks to a very helpful person (Thanks, Jameson!), the stream for The 24-Hour Horror Movie Mind Melter has been set up. Watch this space, as we'll be hosting screenings on select nights leading up to the big event.

out of fear i've felt the urge to be quieter about being trans lately or talk about it less but every time i slip into that mindset i remember that being silent will never save us. we are what we are no matter how visible or loud about it we are and nothing will ever change that - and nothing ever should. it's the world that needs to change, not us.
Laura Loomer reacts: “It’s time to designate the transgender movement as a terrorist movement.”

Stephen’s Ad Hoc screenings are always great and anyone in town for TIFF should be making a detour to this tomorrow night. Legendary Canadian experimental filmmaking Laurence Kardish in person!
Coming next Thursday to Innis Town Hall - we are screening a new restoration of Laurence Kardish’s Slow Run, winner of Best Canadian Narrative at Canadian Artists 68. Thanks to the Cinema Studies Institute, Innis College, Black Zero and Ad Hoc for co-presenting!

The concept of thinking we have to give in to AI when we don’t
Kalen Artinian was a wonderful filmmaker and collaborator. We worked together a half dozen times, and I am heartbroken that there won’t be more. More than that, he was a stand up guy, who was always down to go see something or grab a slice. He was a friend.

Rewatched McCabe & Mrs. Miller for a podcast I’m guesting on, and that is essentially a perfect movie. Beatty and Christie at the height of their powers. Altman discovering just how good he is. And Keith Carradine playing the best guy in movies. “I’ve got poetry in me…”

We’ve got a super-limited amount of the new 40th anniversary 4K boxset of RAN from @StudiocanalUK hitting our shelves now! Get at us if you want one - they won’t last long! Plus, a couple more swanky imports that just arrived!

the Toronto film industry has spent decades subsidizing the film career of a man who has bought his way onto multiple festivals' boards of directors for the sole purpose of getting his streaming slop programmed. it's like a "too mid to fail" situation

One of the most depressing artistic conversations I have ever had was with a friend after a screening of her feature. She said she had gotten at least one question about the ending at every festival, and she was actively trying to remove ambiguity from her next film.
First audience question at the Q&A “Hey so can you explain the intentionally ambiguous ending to me?”

It was an honour to host and introduce this conversation for the 40th anniversary of Re-Animator. We were joined by critic and filmmaker Scout Tafoya, producer/personal hero Brian Yuzna, and the incredible Barbara Crampton. Moderated by the charming and curious Will Sloan!

Coffee shop was playing Bye Bye Life while I was waiting. Bad sign!
Slept badly and now my shoulder hurts, forgot to plug in phone last night, going into work for what will be one of the busiest days of the year.

Hallmark movies should work the same way as pink films. Like, as long as there is a Christmas activity every 10 minutes, the director should be allowed to go wild the rest of the time.
