My take - 1. I invest in markets with money, I don't require or won't require in case of emergency. Likewise helping out friends shouldn't be an all out thing. One could help them as per your personal capacity. 2. I've helped whenever I couldn't & never asked that money back. Sometimes I got it back after whatever time they were comfy but more often than not I didn't. But that's the point of helping!? 3. I've seen in families post someone's demise & their entire family broken & then they have no idea ➡️ where the entire money is parked ➡️ What all investments are there ➡️ Who all were the nominees ➡️ WILL? ➡️ Borrowings - If any!? Not to mention the running that needs to be done to Babus and Sarkari offices when you're broken. 4. A very very important aspect which 99% Indians take casually is NOMINATION or allocating a NOMINEE in case of - 🟢 Bank Acct 🟢 Demat/Mutual Funds Acct 🟢 Property (Flat or Land) 🟢 Term Insurance / Insurance 🟢 NPS etc In case of a demise, family, where there is no nomination, has to again go through a lot to get what's theirs. 5. Another point is LOCKERS as Indian household is synonym with Gold and all mummas love to keep gold in locker. So all that info should also be known in an informative manner. My dad had never communicated all this until quite a few years back & I didn't care much. But in recent past an event was eye opener for all of us. Since then, we as a family have tried to streamline quite a lot, which goes as - 1. Document all the Investments / Borrowings / Property in any form 2. Document all Insurances 3. Document each Acct, Property or anything that has to do with a nominee & list the nominee against that. 4. Document all the USERIDs & PASSWORDs of all the accounts - Bank, Social Media, Policies, Phones, etc. I suggest & urge that we all should secure in a way that tomorrow life doesn't catch us unguarded.
