I was on the rust bandwagon earlier on, but as the project turned hostile and as we're seeing C++ standards incorporate more safety features, I'm doubtful on the rust takeover. This is only solidified by the resolve to resist rust in key projects including BSD and Linux.

I know a guy writing his game engine in rust and he's doing some pretty great stuff with it, but I have to say I cannot agree with the mentality that he's willing to sacrifice some noticeable upfront performance in order to have the guardrails that rust gives you.
