President Xi Jinping on Wednesday attended the commissioning and flag-presenting ceremony of the Fujian, China's first aircraft carrier equipped with electromagnetic catapults, in south China's Hainan Province. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, boarded the aircraft carrier to inspect the vessel at a naval port in Sanya City. The Fujian was launched in June 2022 and named after Fujian Province.
In recent days, the 47th and 48th Escort Task Groups (ETGs) of the Chinese PLA Navy held a mission handover and break-off ceremony. The 48th ETG officially took over the escort mission from the 47th ETG.

After four days of friendly interactions and in-depth exchanges, the Chinese PLAN Task Group 83 successfully concluded its goodwill visit to Singapore and departed Changi Naval Base on November 1(local time). During the visit, sailors from two navies boarded each other’s ships, and the Chinese PLANS Qi Jiguang hosted a deck reception, further enhancing mutual understanding and deepening friendship.

On Wednesday (October 22), the 54th CISM World Military Naval Pentathlon Championship entered its third day of competition. In the obstacle course event, Chinese players swept the top three places in both the men’s and women’s competitions. Among them, Mr. Cheng Fengxuan and Ms. Zhang Na from China currently topped the men’s and women’s score rankings, respectively.
On Tuesday (October 21), the 54th CISM World Military Naval Pentathlon Championship continued. In the seamanship event, Chinese players topped the men's and women's competitions.
Recently, after days of navigation, the 48th Chinese naval escort task group successfully carried out replenishment at sea in a designated area of the South China Sea.

On the morning of October 20 local time, the Chinese PLA Navy’s Task Group 83 successfully concluded its goodwill visit to Thailand and set sail for Singapore. During the visit, task group members visited the Royal Thai Navy’s aircraft carrier as well as the Royal Thai Naval Academy (RTNA), and engaged in sports and cultural exchange activities such as ball games with their Thai friends.
On October 20, life-saving swimming and utility swimming events of the 54th CISM World Military Naval Pentathlon Championship were held at the Mulan Lake Campus of the Naval University of Engineering (NUE). After fierce competition, Mr. Cheng Fengxuan from China and Ms. Klimenteva Elizaveta from Russia temporarily topped the men’s and women’s overall rankings, respectively.

On October 13 local time, the Chinese PLA Navy hospital ship Ark Silk Road berthed in Nuku‘alofa, Tonga. Hu Liuqi, an overseas Chinese girl, upon learning that the ship would visit Tonga as part of “Mission Harmony-2025”, immediately signed up to serve as a volunteer for medical services. She used to suffer from dental deformities and have to cover her mouth whenever she smiled. Her life was changed when she mustered the courage to board the PLA Navy hospital ship Ark Peace, which visited Tonga in 2023. The medical staff onboard treated her dental problems, showed her the medical facilities, and taught her Chinese calligraphy, which became one of her warmest memories. Now she is once again welcoming the arrival of a “big white ship” from China.
On the afternoon of October 19, the 54th CISM World Military Naval Pentathlon Championship kicked off at the Mulan Lake Campus of the Naval University of Engineering in Wuhan, Hubei Province. During the four competition days, more than 100 athletes from nine countries — China, South Africa, Brazil, Cambodia, Spain, Iran, Italy, Pakistan and Russia —compete in six events including obstacle course, lifesaving swimming, practical swimming, seamanship, amphibious cross-country race and obstacle relay. Delegations from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Myanmar participate as observers.
