If you owe the bank $100, that's your problem. If you owe the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem. If you owe the bank $100 billion, that's the government's problem.
BREAKING: OpenAI is requesting US government support to help guarantee financing for the massive investments in AI chips and data centers it needs for expansion, per Bloomberg.

The Italian journalist who posed this obviously reasonable question to an EU official about Israel, Gabriele Nunziati, was just fired by the Nova news agency in Rome for the crime of asking it. The most notable aspect of this event is that it's now utterly unsurprising:
Journalist: “You've said that Russia should repay for reconstruction of Ukraine. Do you believe Israel should repay for reconstruction of Gaza?” EU chief spokesperson: “I have no comment at this stage.”

its insane the amount of money that rich guys from dubai spent on getting mediocre chocolate bars onto the counter of every gas station in america so that its the first thing you think of when you hear "dubai" rather than them taking literal shits on girls they found on instagram
Wait a second...when people were talking about Dubai chocolate, they meant this? I always thought that was a euphemism for the famous scat fetish parties that rich Dubai oil sheiks fly in women from around the world for. I feel stupid now.

This is unreal. Italian journalist Gabriele Nunziati was just fired for asking EU officials this question: "You’ve been repeating several times that Russia should pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Do you believe that Israel should pay for the reconstruction of Gaza since they have destroyed almost all its civilian infrastructure?" Nunziati's employer, Italy's Nova news agency, called the question "completely inappropriate and based on a mistaken premise." I for one think it's a logical question that calls out obvious double standards 🤷‍♂️ But of course it's easier to do it the EU way: brand uncomfortable questions as heretical thought crimes, excommunicate the questioner, and preserve the faith. We've done that a few times in our history.
Italy’s Nova news agency confirmed it let reporter Gabriele Nunziati go for asking a European official about Israel at a press conference. interc.pt/3LJafZX

A non-obvious second effect of the enormous AI capex spend may be that it's masking the deterioration of the US economy under the surface. While the aggregate economic stats may look just fine, economy is becoming ever more K-shaped with the lower half of th economy struggling ever more in terms of keeping up with cost of living increases, young graduates struggling to find jobs, and credit card and auto loan bills pilling up. The seemingly non-negotiable enormous capex spending has also an underappreciated crowding out effect on the rest of the real economy. First, the AI capex drives up input cost for non-AI manufacturing industries from materials to labor. Indeed, manufacturing has been shrinking while data center capex surges. Secondly, if companies have to spend more on capex and expect more productivity from AI, they’ll hold back on hiring. It has already eaten into the hiring plans of even the highly profitable large cap tech companies. To rephrase @pmarca, AI is eating the world, but maybe not quite in the way we expected.

She isn't crying from guilt or shame or sympathy. She is crying from religious ecstasy. We are not dealing with a political philosophy here, but a faith, with gods, devils, saints, martyrs, doctrines, rituals, heaven, hell, and original sin. Most people aren't capable of being atheists. It takes a special kind of mind to actually not worship anything. Whether you think that kind of mind is superior, or inferior, or neither, is irrelevant. Either way, it's rare. Anyone else, when he loses his religion, will find a new one, and vehemently insist that it isn't religion, just observable and obvious facts. But it isn't important what you believe, it's important what your beliefs make you do. And religion, even crypto-religion that doesn't believe in the supernatural, can be told apart from factual or philosophical beliefs by the behavior it inspires. This has nothing to with facts. This is a ritual. This is a purging of sin.
This is Canada's top military general. She is crying while apologizing for systemic racism and discrimination in their forces. A deeply unserious country. This is how Western civilization dies.
