You would think airports would incorporate a dedicated runoff area for planes, much like the emergency escape ramps found on steep hills for trucks in case of brake failure. These ramps are designed to slow down vehicles in dangerous situations, and a similar concept could be applied to runways. If the landing gear fails during landing or takeoff, having a specially designed area with materials or systems to absorb impact and slow the aircraft could significantly improve safety. Such a feature could provide pilots with a better chance to manage emergencies and save lives, offering an additional layer of protection beyond existing safety measures. Itโs surprising that more thought hasnโt been given to implementing such innovations at major airports worldwide.
