‼️Anis Mahmoud Muhammad Dawla (Dola) from Qalqilya was abducted by the Israeli occupation in 1968 and was martyred on August 31st, 1980, after joining a hunger strike in solidarity with fellow Palestinian hostages at Nafha prison camp. Nafha prison had just opened that year, built deep in the Negev desert to isolate Palestinian hostages under suffocating conditions: no beds, very little food, no visits, only torture. The strike lasted 33 days, and Dawla continued even after it ended, dying from starvation and disease inside Ashkelon prison. His body was secretly buried in Israel’s “cemetery of numbers,” where Palestinians are denied names and dignity even in death. Forty-five years later, the Israeli occupation still withholds his remains despite international law and a 2011 agreement listing him among those to be returned. His family’s appeals to the Israeli High Court were rejected, and the state later claimed his body was “missing.” As Israel now exhumes its own soldiers from Gaza for reburial, it continues to deny Palestinians like Dawla the basic right to a grave.
