This afternoon, I had the honor of mowing for Mikaela Haywood and her family. She shared that both her husband and her uncle proudly served in the U.S. Army. Her husband enlisted at just 18 and served eight years, including deployment during Desert Storm as a field-artillery soldier. The experience left lasting scars—he’s now a 100% disabled veteran living with PTSD—but Mikaela says he remains deeply proud of his service and the purpose behind it. Her uncle also served several years of active duty before returning later in life to the Army Reserves. As a military spouse, Mikaela has seen the quiet battles that follow deployment, but she says her husband’s strength and love for his family remind her daily of the sacrifices made by those who serve.
