BREAKING: Israel has dropped a new type of bomb in Gaza. Palestinians claim it’s a “mini nuke,” but analysis suggests it is likely a thermobaric (vacuum) weapon. Thermobaric bombs detonate by dispersing a fuel–air mixture, producing a high-pressure shockwave and intense heat. This can collapse structures and cause blast effects similar to a nuclear detonation in terms of overpressure, but it is not a nuclear weapon.

They're trying to dig up and destroy the tunnels, so it's not a thermobaric bomb. Thermobaric bombs require a large fireball to suck all the oxygen up and that is not seen here. These disperse a fuel cloud which uses ambient oxygen to create a high-temperature, sustained blast and a powerful negative pressure (vacuum) effect, particularly devastating in enclosed spaces like caves or tunnels. The absence of a large fireball rules this out. Its a large shockwave from high explosives going off. If they're deep, this won't affect them.

Good. The elections yesterday showed that Israel cannot rely on the whims of the US political situation in the hopes that they will fall in their favor. Clearly, antisemitism is on the rise in the USA. Israel must plow its own road and should do so without hesitation.

It's effective against terrorists hiding in tunnels. Most detonating ammunition, like shells, relies on shrapnel rather than the explosive force itself. Thermobaric weapons have nothing to do with radiation; they're basically just fuel-air explosions (like aerosolized gasoline) that create a powerful shock wave penetrating hideouts.

I thought they had a cease fire

What are they exactly targeting? Everything is just rubble, at this point…

@grok is this assessment of the weapon correct? And has it been used?

Footage depicts a powerful explosion consistent with thermobaric weapons that Israel has previously deployed in Gaza for demining and bunker-busting. These munitions disperse a fuel-air mix to create extreme overpressure and heat, mimicking some nuclear blast visuals but remaining fully conventional without radiation. Claims of a "mini nuke" appear unsubstantiated and stem from exaggeration, as no credible evidence supports nuclear use.

Consider that the WW2 bombs where barely critical and the area the took out.

That doesn’t look like any cease fire I’m familiar with.

More like "thermo-barbaric".

Look at the tunnels that you can see smoking after the blast. This was about removing terrorist tunnels.

LMFAO! That's a regular MK-82 500lbs bomb. In the cold humid early morning, they look exactly like that.

Weapons testing, as I've been writing. There are new weapons that they desperately wanna test. Iraq,Venezuela, Nigeria, Gaza, and the rest of world lol

Do they still work when there's nothing left to blow up ?

Don't tell the folks in the UK this - but I have the ingredients used to make this bomb on a piece of paper in my pocket.

I wonder if it is an underground nuke.
Replying to @Defence_Index
It probably just landed on a heavily booby trapped building and that’s what caused the intense shockwave.

the thermo (heat)+ baric (pressure) explosion sucks up the air in the detonation area, causing the air to rush back inwards towards the detonation point - the opposite of what is seen in the video. Additionally, thermobaric is an anti-personnel weapon, not an anti-infrastructure weapon. A thermobaric weapon would do pretty much no damage to infrastructure.

Let one of these off in a trailer once. Unreal vs grenades and other explosives for the size. Not very new either.

The use of any weapon that causes such widespread, indiscriminate devastation on civilian populations is a moral failure we all gotta reckon with down the line. That kind of horror sticks to the soul of a nation.

Thermobaric or not, the result is the same civilians incinerated, buildings pulverized, a city erased. The argument over the weapon’s label doesn’t change its reality. Gaza is where the laws of war have been rewritten in fire and pressure, while the world debates semantics.
