The reason Magnus plays the Dutch sometimes is because "hope chess" works. "Hope chess" means the opponent is a person, not a computer. People make mistakes. If the second-best move causes mistakes far more frequently than the best move, play it.

Agree with this in general, but sometimes it's worthwhile when you're completely lost to at least give your opponent a chance to blunder before you resign. The worst that can happen is that they don't fall for your trap, in which case you're no worse off than you started.

I remember seeing a video recently, where the "no hope chess" wasn't fully being appreciated. (something with 100-300 in the title in case you didn't catch on...)
