First look at Paddington in ‘PADDINGTON: THE MUSICAL’ stage play. The puppet is played by 2 performers: James Hameed, the off-stage remote puppeteer, and Arti Shah, the on-stage performer.

You know what this Paddington design reminds me of? The Winnie the Pooh characters in that live action Christopher Robin movie. Like a shabby yet nostalgic plush toy with a storybook charm. I have nothing but faith James Hameed & Arti Shah will carry his charm & soul onstage.

love how they’re keeping Paddington’s charm alive through practical puppetry instead of going full CGI

This looks adorable ngl, but this Hollywood’s new obsession with turning everything into a musical is getting out of hand. Next thing you know, we’ll have a Fast & Furious: The Musical with cars doing ballet and shii😂

…okay maybe I’m just being dumb but where’s the on-stage puppeteer? I was thinking we’d get something like Lion King with the puppeteer standing behind the puppet but I… don’t see them?

At a time when entertainment keeps turning to AI and screens, a live puppet Paddington feels refreshing. Two real performers powering one gentle bear - that’s craft, not algorithm. Audiences are clearly craving authenticity again, even in family productions.

That’s adorable and impressive. Paddington getting the stage treatment with dual performers sounds like the perfect mix of heart and craftsmanship.

It’s smart to use two performers to manage the intricate demands of a complex puppet like that. It allows for nuanced movement while keeping the on-stage performer free to focus on interacting with the rest of the cast and delivering that signature marmalade-loving warmth.
