What is the absolute obsession with mitochondria??
Saturday energy boost: Try a cold shower. It shocks your mitochondria awake.

It is like when a 5 year old child learns a new complex word. Keeps repeating it in any unrelated context until learns the next fancy word.

Not sure, but the whole thing is giving me flashbacks to Krebs cycle PTSD.

When I was in 5th grade (11 y/o, 1972), I developed a "theory" that cancer is caused by "overactive mitochondria." My 11 y/o self, while quite incorrect, was still smarter than the HHS Secretary now ( . . . because I knew that I didn't know anything, and I worked hard to learn.)

We’re living through a bro science epidemic. The characteristics are to take something for which maybe a study was done that showed some evidence - however inconclusive the causal connection or minor the effect - for some physical benefit. Then some influencer or supplement company pushes it on people, maybe brainstorms some quasi-scientific mechanism for what it’s doing inside your body, and people spend unnecessary time and money on esoteric things like taking saw palmetto pills and cold showers while not focusing nearly enough on basic things that would yield 100x the benefit but unfortunately require discipline, namely dietary discipline and vigorous exercise.

Well, mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of aging. The current literature backs this up. But, this doesn't affect kids, so RFK Jr doesn't know what he's talking about source: sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

I took my mitochondria out on a date (movie and dinner) and when we got back to my place we made sweet mitochondria love all night. 🤣

It is a word, that has more than 2 syllables, that they finally found out how to pronounce!

It started with RFK Jr. being a creep in airports and public streets by looking at little kids.

They just keep on using words they know MAGA won't really understand to sell them books and supplements. Watch a Jordan Peterson podcast if you want to understand where antivax/Maga came from. He hasn't answered a question in 8 years, its deliberate to manipulate religious groups

I hear if you sit under a sunlamp, it recharges your ribosomes. FYI, I am not a doctor. 😎

“It’s the powerhouse of the cell” That’s the last thing MAHA idiots heard in a science class.

I don't think I have ever heard a statement more stupid than "shocks your mitochondria awake" What does that even mean? What is the mechanism for this?

I’ve been obsessed with mitochondria for 55 years. Research, papers, organized conferences, served on grant panels, the usual. I must have missed the cold shower papers. Gary should write a review or something. Happy to peer review it.

The truthiness of it. It sounds legitimate. People who’ve never opened books, let alone studied, sound smarter than they are (which, admittedly, is not a stratospheric hurdle). It’s like cosplay, but with facts and data.

75% sure that, given a grade school diagram of a cell, RFKjr would be unable to correctly label most of the cellular components, AND especially the mitochondria. And the bonus Q? Explain the function of mitochondria:

You know how you could always tell when Trump had heard a new word because he'd use it every day for weeks, as though he'd minted it? Guess his cultists are the same.
