I still remember being 9 in the theater and getting so existentially frightened by this bit. Couldn’t stop thinking about it the rest of the movie.

Hellboy’s probably my favorite Del Toro if I’m being honest with myself.

I still don't understand why these didn't do better. These were great, fun movies.

Azathoth, the Lord of all Things, tends to do that to people. That's why he is relegated out in the mindless void past the bright clusters of dimensioned space, where neither time nor matter stretch.

A great fucking sequence to be sure. And, sorry, I can't stop myself from sharing that I designed the Hell Hole Generator. Rage on.

Pure Lovecraft. Now, why won’t he make “At the Mountains of Madness” like he promised?

It's called Hellboy. What did you expect kittens? They came later.

Had to check the comments for answers. :D It's been a while since watching it. But I reread everything I have on Hellboy last year.

Del Toro plays around with elements of Lovecraftian influence constantly. The true monsters are out there... in the darkness... the Arctic regions and below. Oooooooo

I just wish the sequel kept Marco Beltrami for the soundtrack.

This scene stuck with me also as a kid, but I was more mesmerized than scared

Having read Mike Mignola's Hellboy comics, this was my favorite part, seeing the Ogdru Jahad! (it's too much for a nine year old, sorry it scared you)

This is not a theatre, it’s a cinema, kino. A theatre has real life actors and decor on a stage

That awakened my curiosity for cosmic horror. What actually scared me, without fail, was the guy with the blades when he didn't have his mask on.

I was floored, shocked, and just 😱 when Hellboy II: the Golden Army got like NO attention. I have probably never seen a movie so visually stunning. It was absolutely beautiful. A group of us went over what we thought was great that year it never even registered to them.
