One of the most unrealistic parts of Star Wars was R2D2 wandering through the desert and somehow everything was flat and solid. The "sand people" sure didn't have much sand. The reality is that R2D2 would've been completely screwed in that environment.
It's literally a running joke in the Star Wars community that they constantly cut away from R2D2 when he approaches things he shouldn't be able to handle because it makes no sense lmao
They unironically gave him rocket boosters in the prequels because it was such a huge problem
