Today is National STEM/STEAM Day! Over the last four years, we’ve made major investments in STEM education and workforce development across Virginia — from launching lab schools like the Aerospace Academy of the Eastern Shore, VCU x CodeRVA, and the Maritime Engineering and Environmental Studies Academy, to creating our new Lab-to-Launch initiative that accelerates commercialization for university technology startups. We’re moving at the speed of business, not government — and preparing our students to seize the incredible opportunities in STEM fields across our Commonwealth.

CHART OF THE DAY: 58,000 Veterans Hired — and more than 3,800 Virginia employers hiring our nation’s veterans and their spouses! The Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program supports employers committed to hiring the best workforce in the nation into great jobs and careers. We have accelerated the pace of hiring by more than doubling the number of participating companies — from 1,700 to 3,800 — and expanded the program to also support veteran and military spouses. With Veterans Day coming up next week, we are proud of this outstanding program and grateful to all the patriotic Virginia employers who stand with our military heroes and their spouses — who have sacrificed so much for Commonwealth and our Country.

CEL’s new $5 million manufacturing facility is creating 250 new jobs, growing to 500, in James City County. This investment marks the first U.S. facility for this Dublin-based company and an exciting new chapter in the Virginia-Ireland partnership.

The Virginia Department of Forestry is assisting the @forestservice in responding to a 1,700-acre wildfire on federal land at Bald Mountain in Botetourt County. Helicopters and two “Super Scooper” aircraft are supporting containment efforts. @ForestryVA has crews, a dozer, and a Unified Command representative on scene. Thank you to our brave firefighters working tirelessly to keep Virginians safe.

Across government, we are driving major reductions in processing times by reducing regulatory burdens and leveraging our best-in-class Virginia Permit Transparency (VPT) Dashboard. CHART OF THE DAY: VIRGINIA CARES! Virginia is the first state in the nation to provide direct nutritional assistance to SNAP recipients during this shutdown. But we know there are still thousands of families, including federal workers and newly SNAP-eligible Virginians, who are struggling to make ends meet as the Democrat Shutdown continues.   Last week, we infused an additional $1 million into the Commonwealth’s regional food banks, for a total of $4 million, and this week we launched the Virginia Cares Initiative. This is about neighbors stepping forward to bridge the gap and support one another, especially as we approach Thanksgiving.   You can scan the QR code or visit the link in our press release posted below to sign up and support your fellow Virginians in need by donating food or funds. Participants will receive a list of high-demand food items, drop-off locations, and open hours.

Virginians on SNAP are getting the help they need today — the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance effort has launched. The Commonwealth is stepping up to support our neighbors in need while U.S. Senate Democrats continue to vote to keep the government closed and prevent SNAP benefits from being distributed.   Virginia SNAP beneficiaries who normally receive their benefits on the first of the month received their first VENA benefit this morning. Today, the most needy Americans won’t receive their food assistance SNAP benefits because Senate Democrats have blocked them now 14 times. Senate Democrats, including Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, have voted 14 times to shut down the federal government and not fund SNAP benefits. Virginia taxpayers are stepping up to provide weekly benefits through the Virginia Emergency Nutrition Program to SNAP recipients, which will deliver its first tranche of benefits on Monday, November 3rd. Suzanne and I had a great time revving up Virginia families for Halloween! We welcomed members of the Virginia State Police, Capitol Police, and guests from the Doorways Hospital Hospitality House to the Executive Mansion for some Halloween fun. A big thank you to Tonie Stevens and the @RichmondRaceway team for the NASCAR fire suits and custom helmets from our friends, and to the nearly 200 Virginians who made a pit stop at the Mansion for treats and community.
