You may have heard about Ethereum Interop Layer (EIL). We’ve seen excitement building which is great, but we want to set expectations.
✨What is EIL?
EIL is a trustless cross-L2 interop layer. It enables seamless, multichain transactions while keeping the user in control and preserving censorship resistance and privacy.
✨Who is EIL for?
EIL is designed for ethereum and its rollups. Because they share ethereum as a root of trust, we can remove the need for trusted intermediaries. Other L1s don’t share that trust root, which is why they require bridges with trust assumptions. EIL is not meant to replace those, but to give ethereum’s rollup ecosystem a native, trust-minimized path for interop.
✨Where are we now?
To be clear, we are still early on. We care most about making sure interop preserves ethereum’s core values. That north star is clear, but the details will take time and iteration.
✨What’s next?
We plan to share a more detailed spec in mid-October, ahead of Devconnect in November, where we’ll open things up for broader community feedback and experimentation.
Bottom line: expect progress, but also plenty of iterations 🤝
