Hezbollah’s weapons depots expose what we already know: international “peacekeeping” forces are useless. If they can’t enforce agreements in Lebanon, why imagine they’d work in Gaza without Israel’s security control?
After October 7, Trump’s 21-Point Plan needs seven critical corrections - the missing teeth that actually ends the conflict.
First, UNRWA must be shut down outright. Trump’s plan spoke of phasing it out gradually. That luxury is gone. An agency that built tunnels and raised generations on hate cannot be “reformed.” It must disappear.
Second, the so-called Right of Return must be renounced explicitly. The Trump framework buried it under alternatives like resettlement and compensation, but left room for ambiguity. If the “return” dream survives, it guarantees a round two.
Third, demilitarization cannot be left to international monitors. That model already failed in Lebanon. Israel must hold overarching security control - the inspections, the sensors, the snapback rights. Otherwise Hamas simply becomes Hezbollah 2.0.
Fourth, there must be a buffer zone on the Gaza side. Not vague “security arrangements,” but a no-man’s-land that makes the border defensible and teaches a permanent lesson: terror leads to territorial loss, not gain.
Fifth, Hamas leadership cannot remain in Gaza. The original plan assumed they would be sidelined, but did not dictate their fate. They must leave, and prisoners released in any exchange must not return to Israel.
Sixth, Egypt and Qatar cannot be trusted as guarantors. Trump leaned heavily on Cairo, while Doha was never excluded from its meddling. Both play double games. Enforcement must come instead from states that have already chosen normalization - the UAE and other Abraham Accords partners - actors with a genuine interest in stability, not smuggling.
Seventh, Palestinian education must be rebuilt without UNRWA. Trump spoke about reforming curricula, but reform is meaningless if the same agency continues to run the schools. UNRWA’s role must end completely.
These seven changes are not “maximalist.” They are the minimum to actually prevent another October 7.
