Internet is for syncing stuff and updating firmwares, it's not needed for every day use.

My RO water filter is passive, has no AWS. Why do you need it to connect to the internet? At my new place, the water is really clean and clear. I only change filters once a year, in cities, I'm sure it needs to be done 2-3 times, and you can set a calendar reminder for that.
