I used to hate this movie and now it’s one of my favorites. It’s a great example of how writing used to understand that a woman and man are meant to build each other up with their complimentary natures, not dominate one another. The scene where he accidentally calls her “Captain” is 😘👌🏻 The man has such a love of country and family and the film culminates with a musical tribute to the country with a song about its national flower, in open defiance of the cultural assimilation and erasure of Austrian identity the Nazis are insisting on bringing about. George can’t say goodbye to his fellow former war comrades before fleeing Austria, all he can do is profess his love for the country that so many of their former friends fought and died for in his last moments together. For all the great things about the film, I will say that I still hate the Little Goatherd song. That shit is still ass to this day.

The movie smears Georg von Trapp. Nice guy. Excellent officer…the Austro-Hungarian Navy’s top U-boat commander.

I thought the Baroness was terrible, but as an adult, I'd have shipped all of those kids off to boarding school, too.

I have found myself agreeing with him though. The grounds are extensive. He probably decided to use the whistle after a nanny angrily screamed for the children until she was blue in the face all day. Intercom are the norm in large houses now.
