Short-term political gain will be paid for with the long-term pain of much higher oil prices....
The lower the Trump Administration tries to force oil prices, the higher oil prices will eventually go.

Socialism is inherently dysfunctional.
The reason socialism is evil is because it decreases the total number and quality of goods and services available to the people by hindering businesses, whose main reason for existing is to increase the amount of goods and services available. On top of this, strangulation by regulation reduces the amount of job creation, which suppresses wages. And govt printing inflates asset values, meaning asset rich get richer, and asset poor get poorer. And it does all this under the guise of protecting the very people it's butchering. That last part, the deception into self sabotage, is why socialism is not merely bad, it is evil.

This shows that refining margins are high. This usually means that refiners will buy more oil where available and increase their run rates where they are able to. It is a good fundamental indicator of real time oil supply / demand balances, with certain caveats.
