My friend @JasonMiyaresVA is right.
But what he won't say — because he respects his office — is that Democrats in Virginia don't give a damn about the Commonwealth's Constitution.
They're calling for the murder of Republicans and our children. They're not going to let the Constitution get in their way.
Virginia Democrats are free to propose changes to the Constitution but cannot violate it to do so.
As a Delegate, I crossed party lines to help create Virginia’s independent redistricting process. Now, as Attorney General, my duty is to call balls and strikes, and this one is very clear.
Under the state Constitution, the General Assembly must approve a proposed amendment twice, with an election in between those votes. That intervening election exists so Virginians can hold their representatives accountable for how they vote on the proposed change.
The next lawful opportunity to amend the Constitution is in 2027, with new maps possible for the 2028 election, if Virginia voters agree.
