I wrote some documentation on this while at Coherent once, basically if you wanted a totally safe drone what I would do is get optical coated glass/Laser line mirrors. Those are made of glass often ~6mm thick. Covering a drone in this would require a very heavy shield made of MBE/plated glass materials. This gets unbelievably expensive very quickly. For reference - a 1/2 inch mirror can be like $200, a 1 inch can be $1-2k, a 4 inch mirror can be like $8-10k. Anything outside of a circle you're gonna have a hard time finding anyone. We use materials in our systems that do not get destroyed or ablated by our laser light, so of course there are things you can do to avoid destruction. TLDR is that to protect a $1k drone from the laser you're gonna spend $100k on the materials and then you need to deal with the weight issues as you have a few kG of dead weight glass on the system. Cameras are gone in a uS, nothing you can do there to help. At this point at @aureliuslasers we have such a deep catalogue of materials and destruction methods, we're confident in our capability at our ranges.
