This is an inconvenient truth. The US reportedly considered confining the attacks to military targets but there were none sufficiently large to have the desired impact so, they vapourised over 200,000 civilians, mostly elderly men, women and children, instead.
☝️ "The USA is the only country in the world that has used nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear state twice. What was the purpose? There was no military expediency whatsoever. What was the purpose of using nuclear weapons against Hiroshima and Nagasaki, against largely civilian populations? Was there any threat to the territorial integrity or sovereignty of the US? No, of course not. There was no military expediency. Japan’s military machine was broken, its ability to resist had been reduced to almost zero. Why was it necessary to use nuclear weapons against Japan? Furthermore, in Japanese textbooks, they write that it was the Allies who launched the nuclear strike on Japan. That’s how they control Japan; even in school textbooks, the Japanese cannot write the truth." - President Putin
