Akshi beach at Alibag is one of Maharashtra’s finest beaches with pristine sands and a lot of migratory bird landings, Unfortunately it is also a massive plastic waste dumping ground. Locals use the sea as a dumping ground for garbage because there is no systematic collection and evacuation system and the sea reciprocates by dumping the garbage right back on the shore. Maharashtra needs 1 million new small and large waste bins and a proper collection system in mission mode.
