President Donald Trump pardoned Troy Lake on Friday. The 65-year-old Wyoming diesel mechanic spent seven months in federal prison for tweaking and removing emissions systems on ailing engines. When he got the news, he wept.
What a story out of Wyoming!
“Calling to tell him tonight that he’d been pardoned by President Trump was a truly joyous moment, and I am grateful to President Trump for standing up for those wronged by the Biden administration’s weaponization against working Americans,” said Lummis in a Friday text statement sent via her senior communications adviser.
That was a reference to the fact that, though the Lakes’ shop was raided by EPA investigators in 2018 under the first Trump administration, the case did not turn into a criminal prosecution until Biden’s presidency.
She said she’s grateful for the pardon, and said Lake was targeted “simply for keeping diesel engines in school buses, ambulances, and fire trucks running in our tough Western weather.”
This case, said Lummis “is yet another example of how federal agencies have been weaponized by Democrat administrations against hardworking Americans. I’ll continue fighting to ensure this kind of government abuse never happens again.”

This tweet perfectly illustrates how appeals to social justice are often used to mask policies that advance corporate power and labor exploitation.
Private equity consolidation in the ski industry has caused consumer costs to skyrocket, eroded local resort cultures, and replaced local staff with low-wage seasonal labor hired through the J-1 visa program, a nonimmigrant “cultural exchange” program that in practice functions as a cheap labor pipeline with minimal wage enforcement and exemptions from FICA taxes.
To conceal this crony capitalist rot, @repPettersen instead frames the issue as an attack on 'immigrants' — which J-1 visa holders are not, and has chosen to side with the private equity firms.
Trump’s attacks on legal immigration are hurting Colorado’s economy. 60% of ski resorts rely on workers with J-1 visas, and many are now scrambling as they are unable to fill the positions needed.
When we shut immigrants out, we hurt our local businesses, our tourism industry, and our economy.

If Republicans won’t nuke the filibuster, they should propose a Constitutional Amendment that codifies the filibuster & sets the number of Supreme Court Justices at 9. If Democrats won’t let that pass, you can be damn sure they’re planning to nuke the filibuster & pack the Court.

This is dumb. Enough with the ridiculous stimulus checks. Want to stimulate the economy? Have the first tax bracket begin at 100k. This benefits all working people in the country. Those making under 100 thousand will not be taxed and those making over will get an instant 100k deduction. The only people who won't benefit from it are the non-producers of the country.
Anything less is silly. I'm pro-tariff, but only as a means to get us here. Keep the 2000 dollars.
