@MetfixByBSI MetFix Ormond whiteboard discussion : blood labs for fitness. More real life examples out there….
My mom is 70. She tried carnivore for a little while a couple of years ago, and it completely got rid of her joint pain. She now eats more keto, but prioritizes meat like beef and chicken, eggs, butter, no seed oils. She eats some beans and veggies, she doesn't eat many carbs anymore, and she stays away from sweets.
She recently saw her PCP after getting annual labs.
3 years ago, her lipid panel was:
TC 293, HDL 62, LDL 171, TG 298.
TC/HDL ratio = 4.7
TG/HDL ratio = 4.8
Her doctor convinced her to take a statin. She took it for a few months then stopped. I told her not to take it again.
While on the statin, her results were:
TC 230, HDL 70, LDL 121, TG 197
TC/HDL ratio = 3.3
TG/HDL ratio = 2.8
Her newest lipid panel looks amazing to me.
TC 257, HDL 75, LDL 155, TG 134.
TC/HDL ratio = 3.4
TG/HDL ratio = 1.8
Her numbers today are better than the numbers she had 3 years ago, and her triglycerides have dropped from 298 to 134! That's huge!
The newest doctor's visit went like this:
Doctor: "Your labs look great but your cholesterol is still high. Are you taking the statin I prescribed?"
Mom: "No. I know my cholesterol still looks a little high, but what about the ratios? How are they?"
Doctor: confused look wondering how she knows about ratios.
Mom: "My daughter is a CVICU nurse and looks at all my labs too. She told me about ratios."
Way to go mom 👏👏👏
