Dear founder, Are you letting god flow through you?
Day 5 of building something new! 👩‍💻 Today was a build day! After the app release yesterday, I have a few dozen users now. Needed to set up tracking to better understand behavior & continue to iterate. Set up Posthog (win for the day was credits through @posthog startup program). Also added a page to onboarding to direct users to rate the app. Bc App Store SEO matters. 🫡

Day 4 of building something new! 🚀 My app got approved & is now live on the App Store! 🎉 This is the first time I've had my own app live (exciting). Coworked with two friends and got some really amazing user feedback & hype. My own TikTok content isn't going anywhere, so spent some time researching potential creators to work with. ps - thanks for all the support here! Amazing by how many of y'all are invested in me sharing my building journey :))

Day 3 of building something new! 🚀 Apple denied my app due to issues with iPad & the support page. Made the tech changes and resubmitted to the App Store. Spent several hours last night scrolling TikTok to better understand different audiences & virality. Feels like a waste of time, but got some reasonable learnings. I currently have 1 account I'm actively posting on & 2 others I'm "warming up" in other niches. My #1 priority now is figuring out user acquisition (hmu if I know anyone who wants to advise on this). ps - thanks to my friends at @clay for letting me work out of their office today :))

Day 2 of building something new :)) Today I drafted a @ycombinator application & recorded an application video. Will probably submit later this week. 🤞 I redesigned a core page of the app to make it more clear. And, again posted 3 TikToks (all stuck around 300 views). There are a few potential niches I could market to and I'm still trying to refine which niche and messaging works the best. Will continue to experiment.

Reflections on day 1 of building something new ✍️ iPad screenshots took longer than expected. Some of my Swift views totally broke when I ran them on an iPad simulator. But it's fixed and I've now submitted to the App Store for review!🚀 Trying to figure out the TikTok game. I've been learning everything I can about TikTok & UGC (incl @appmafia_ & @nicholasnlawton). Posted 3 videos today on a new account, all stuck in 300 view jail sadly.

Agree on this. I've learned so much from working at startups. However, if you want to found, I'd suggest joining even earlier, pre-seed or seed stage startup, where you see more of what it takes for an early startup to succeed.
Hot take: Don’t drop out. Take a semester off and go work at a Series A or B startup instead. You’ll learn more in 6 months than 4 years of “building.” Most people don’t need to start a company - they need to see how a real one runs. Too many students are “dropping out” and building but don’t know why they’re building.

Day 1 of building something new 👀 I’ve been coding since 13, but haven't share too much of my journey on here. This time, I'm pushing myself to share more. Today I'm adding final touches for App Store submission (inc deleting accounts, etc) and then releasing v1!

Waiting for the day Chipotle expands into the health-conscious Sweetgreen niche. All they need to do is add arugula & sweet potatoes to the menu, paired with an organic, aesthetic marketing launch.

Looks like @classpass could be launching this soon

Ultimately, I decided the in person logistics / events space wasn’t for me, and I’ll be sticking to building pure software for now. However, maybe there’s something I missed. I’d love to see someone else make this business work. People loved the classes!

The real challenge became: lots of demand, but not enough supply. So, I decided to create supply. I recruited instructors to run classes. This worked, we ran classes both sides loved! However, there was a business model problem, due to lower margins and upfront costs.
