He was fired from his job. Should have just charged him with a misdemeanor and a fine. Stupid to go to trial on this. I do not condone is behavior but jury trial was overkill.

An issue here is that it takes time to figure out what's been thrown at you. This impacts rules of engagement so it also hits community relations.

Maybe in this particular case it was a just result. But what next? What thrown objects ARE sufficiently likely to cause harm that you would deign to allow prosecution for such? Snowball to the face of a cop? Rock to the ribs of a FPS officer? Hot coffee over the head? Hmm?

Cool. So If I throw a sandwich at one of your family members faces in public and call them a b@tch, do I get the same courtesy? Daughter, sister, mother? Doubtful. You’d argue for my arrest and detention.

I hope people don’t start throwing sandwiches at Dem members of Congress, now that it’s legal in DC.

The problem is that we all know that if this was a rightwing protester throwing a sandwich at a cop the same DC jury would give them 5 years.

If I were the Trump admin, I'd simply ask the judge "How would you have us appropriate the money?" And have him set his own impeachment trap. Having judges dictate how to fund anything is completely unconstitutional

Right a judge cannot tell a president that they can takeover Article 1 powers. That's pretty much the opposite of what a judge can do. If the judge wants to do something order Schumer to appear in his court to answer why the CR hasn't been passed.

The Sierra Club died decades ago when its old guard leadership dared to suggest that increasing immigration to the US might strain the resources and natural beauty of the United States. They were shown the door and the Sierra Club went hard Left.

Dating never really worked that well unless you were already in a shared, vetted context of similar people to draw from and had casual exposure to each other already. School/college, church, small towns, sports, organizations. When you start with 8% in common you won't get to 100% for a long time, definitely not in one date.

It's actually mysterious how many smart single people there are that cannot find a partner. So many people want a well-defined thing, and that thing exists in droves, and they cannot find it. Also it's each-other.

I always wonder how much dating apps contribute to this, I know lots of people consider it a smoking gun I do buy into the idea that the apps induce choice paralysis, and an illusion of endless options esp. for women But it seems like the problem is older than the apps

The women who don't have a partner don't want the kind of man who cannot easily find a partner.

not a mystery. they’re single because intelligence correlates with abstraction and autonomy. the more society provides the less anyone needs anyone. this pattern has existed for hundreds of years and only grows as society provides more.

I... think it might have something to do with lack of meetup spots. Most people think they're above average (even for their age group), so you can't advertise your intelligence by calling it that. And whatever intelligent job or hobby you have doesn't sufficiently signal IQ.

I have a theory that 1) we've all been implicitly trained on How to Do First Dates without realizing it, 2) that training is very bad, 3) it's even worse in a world with dating apps, which create the expectation of a particular person who's never exactly the one who shows up
