One of the unexplored reasons for a tax on remittances is that many immigrants sending money home are also receiving US taxpayer-funded welfare (though it's so far been impossible to measure the number), meaning we're subsidizing remittances, and should get some of that back.

Some are replying that illegal aliens don't get welfare. Not true. Households headed by illegals (most of whose kids are US-born & thus citizens) make extensive use of welfare -- because they're unskilled & can't earn enough to feed themselves. cis.org/Richwine/Welfare-Con…

You do know don't you, that millions of illegals pay taxes, State, Local and some Federal, and Social Security, and get nothing in return. So, many of them are financing 'your' retirement. Think about that?...
All illegals pay some taxes, but not much, and since they're poor, they receive more in welfare. And the "benefit" to Social Security only exists because they can't collect it -- if they're legalized, and can collect, then that becomes a net negative too.

These people are living better than I lived for YEARS in NYC working multiple jobs with roommates in my kitchen just to hopefully make some dreams happen. I once gave $ to a beggar who told me “I only get 2k a month public assistance” - I was making almost half of that. Insane

Just stop the welfare. Remittance taxation would be a disaster for banks and businesses that would be hit by error

*all of it, since you said "should."

and the other reason there is some of them are providing downward wage pressure for US workers along with pushing some former US workers into unemployment or into lower earning jobs with less income tax paid. this is true even with the H1B stuff nytimes.com/2015/06/04/us/la…
Remittances should be taxed at 50%+ As a matter of public policy, the United States should not want to hire foreign workers who take our money out of the US economy & send it away. A high remittance tax will create selection effects that benefit America.

Remittance economy = antiwhite parasitism. When antiwhiteism victimises Whites, there has to be a collateral beneficiary.

They also claim 10 dependants so if the job is on the books , no withholding of payroll taxes. Now it gets better. The illegal alien used my SS# and IRS wants those unpaid taxes.

With the exception of LIFE SAVING medical care, NO BENEFITS for illegals and hammer-like fines for businesses that hire them. Now, watch the self-deportations. Highly cost effective. Feds, states and local need to come together to put Americans First, for the first time in a very long time.

You get less of what you tax. That’s reason enough for me.

You are correct which is why the tax on remittances should be 50%-75%. The money that gets sent to Mexico leaves the US economy and never returns. The remittances make up about 3.8%-4% of Mexico’s GDP It’s another way the illegal aliens are stealing from US citizens.

Also a lot of the money being sent is under the table wages that are not taxed.

People sending remittances also ruin the economy of the country they're sending it to. Something similar to gentrification, but with the same shitty 3rd worlders who just have more money because they're partaking in immigration fraud. This in turn makes more try to immigrate.

Remittances might be one of the only evidences of some money earned by illegals. Taxing it as it leaves our country should have been routine. I believe Oklahoma is the only state to tax remittances.

We should require proof of legal residence for any remittance or international money transfers. The financial industry is so heavily regulated it can handle the incremental burden.

My take is illegals get ZERO welfare. Plus: US citizens who are on Welfare should have their remittances taxed up to the the total $ of welfare received plus 15% for O&M, because we are subsidizing them too.

anyone receiving my tax dollars should not be able to send a cent of it out of this country. any one illegal should not be receiving a cent to start with.
3
How about just a solid 50% remittance tax on anything over $2000. You could send $2000. Anything else after that will be taxed at 50% enough of this bullshit. People Are you coming here and fucking taking an American job to send money out of the fucking country.

Don't forget they take child tax credit and earned income credit for kids that aren't even in this country.

We should tax them at least 50% if not more

Let's require SSN or taxpayer ID for remittances.

Or we could not let them have any of the money in the 1st place.

How is it even a question?? MINIMUM should be 30%

All you need is an anchor baby and via the child you get housing and other social services.

Place 50% flat taxes on any remittances to certain worst offender countries And just like the tariffs you'll have the foreign countries beating down the White House door looking for solutions Self deportation would skyrocket

If we had a policy of zero tolerance for illegal aliens and the actions to back up that policy there would be no need for a tax on remittances. Until then however I’ll settle for a tax somewhere between 30 to 50 percent.

seems like getting rid of illegal immigrant welfare would be more productive than taxing remittances. How would this be enforced. Hint: It can't

Ma y work under thr table. They file taxes and it looks like they are making below poverty wages which the qualifies them for welfare.

Should go specifically to hospitals and schools hit by illegal immigration costs.
1
Also, most illegals are working as contract workers…and obviously they’re not gonna file taxes. So they get off Scot-free from paying ANY taxes, while citizens who are contract workers have to pay out the wazoo or face prison.

We probably pay more in entitlements to those families than they send home in remittances. Even if we paid 2x direct to Mexico etc skipping the middleman, we'd be better off as we wouldn't have their children here who are raised to hate heritage Americans

They should taxed at least similar level to sales taxes.
