Yes I came back to twitter just to post this as I’m so disappointed in the RCP. Really can’t believe some things I’ve heard. Astonished at fellow consultants, but I’m also grateful to those (eligible to attend) who spoke up with points of common sense and caution #RCPEGM

I’m also deeply saddened to hear of Tasneem’s passing. What a tragedy someone so young, and clearly such a kind person, is lost. Sincere condolences to all that loved her. It’s more important than ever that we look out for each other. Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas x

But UK medicine for me (ie my job) has been grinding me down this year. I won’t get into it here but f*ck me, working for the NHS is one long toxic relationship (pretty sure I stole that from someone else on medtwitter!) We only have so much mental bandwidth, and X was a casualty

No big political statement, simply wasn’t enjoying it anymore, for many reasons. What a shame. To be a narcissist for a second (who am I kidding, you all know that I am one 24/7), twitter allowed a random DGH cardiologist to become “someone” in UK medicine. I’m grateful for that.

I always took having this platform very seriously & will continue to be as vocal as I can. Do let me know if I can help I’m still online in other places, but X doesn’t isn’t conducive to a calm mind at the moment. Thre*ds seems promising so far…not many UK medics there yet tho

Disappearing from here again now but I also wanted to say hi to my #medtwitter friends. Sorry I’ve not been on X during recent conversations about our profession, but I remain as committed as ever to protecting training & careers for doctors, & maintaining standards for patients

I've tried to be fair, but don't try to hide my position. It often feels a bit strange to talk about this as a doctor, but I am not only a doctor, but a son & advocate for patients. support AD for terminal disease. Some countries have more expansive laws, I look at them too

Just yesterday Esther Rantzen voiced her support, and today Kier Starmer followed suit, so even though I wanted to make this video a long time ago, the timing feels appropriate. The public want to see a change.

It's about Assisted Dying. I am a doctor in the UK, and feel it is unfair that 350 million people have access to AD for terminal disease, but people in the UK don't – and anyone who wants to help someone end their suffering is a criminal. Public support for a law change is strong

Hi everyone, I've been away & will continue to be so, but I wanted to share a video I've made because it's a really important topic. It's also unlike any video I've made before as it's deeply personal. I hope it starts some conversations. (that's me mum) piped.video/l-IO6_cU5jM?si=k2n6…

We need to shed these pejorative terms that stand in the way of maximising influencer income May I suggest taking a leaf from @StephenAtHome's 'Truthiness' by suggesting 'Evidenciness' for medical products & supplements that FEEL like they should work but are unproven
Replying to @MedCrisis
COI is such a dirty phrase.... i prefer synergistic business ventures

Sometimes I look at my people, the evidence nerds, science pedants, the rational voices of reason, then I look at the beautiful celebs selling snake oil, wellness influencers at tantric retreats, the medfluencers mixing COIs with their margaritas and I wonder Did I do this wrong?

We desperately need to do something about what constitutes a “journal” and what gets listed on pubmed
6000+ likes for one of the most bizarre papers I've read. Methods section has near zero detail. The biomarker results have no units. The 'symptoms of autism' don't use standardized criteria, but things like 'silly behaviour'. Read it yourself, seriously: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article…

Having to share this only a few weeks after some other bright spark with an audience thought he’d come up with an original thought. Except this time, it’s an out of touch doctor who should know better. Equally braindead idea though.
