Amazing story: the Czech government spent six years planning a series of dams. A family of beavers constructed the dams for free, in 1-2 says, in the same locations that human picked, accomplishing the goals set by the Czech government and saving humans $1.2 million

With few exceptions* building things is great, actually! (* superintelligent AI: if anyone builds it with the current tech, everyone dies; and gain-of-function research in bio: uhm making more deadly viruses is a bad idea)

Eh, but keep reading the article- the turbines the beavers built were of a lower wattage than the government ordered, and there was a big lawsuit over it.

In California or New York those beavers would have been euthanized and the dams removed while step 6 of 89,871 of the official permitting process continues.

Honestly I think that this is humiliating, and spending 6 years planning a series of dams that could have been completed with a few days of work is emblematic of much that is wrong with our society.

Have you tried living downstream of beaver dams? My neighbors did, and their storage shed ended up floating downstream when one broke 🤪 Rodents are not noted for their attention to QC or their use of sufficient rebar.

Great. Someone teach the beavers hydro turbine tech so we can utilize it.

I choose to believe the beavers waited 6 years for a permit until they got fed up with the endless euro bureaucracy

Thank you for specifying they did it for free. We need to acknowledge that they worked their butts off as unpaid labor.

Best frickin' piece of information I have ever come across on Twitter. A total Hall Of Famer. Nothing comes close. No documentation, no standup meetings, no PRDs, no ChatGPT... Straight up actual teamwork & execution.
