4/ This is where the culture of tech and the culture of finance completely speak past each other. When tech people hear "move fast and break things", they think Uber. When finance people hear "move fast and break things", they thing Long Term Capital Management or Barings Bank.

Can someone explain what this photos is of? No hits on tineye.
This is officially one of the strangest pictures in American history, and I do not doubt that it will be considered iconic a hundred years from now. 100% serious here.

At Coinbase, it's a fireable offense to create a new committee that has not been explicitly approved by Brian or myself. In the vast majority of cases, spreading authority across multiple people is inefficient. And once you’ve added an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy to something, it's harder to remove. Each new committee compounds, further slowing the business down - best to avoid this wherever possible.

17 years since some anon dropped a banger on the cypherpunks. ~13 years since I started working on crypto law and policy. 4.5 years at MCC. We’ve all got a lot more to come. Thanks Satoshi.

A display of pure power from Hurricane Melissa today. Remarkable satellite imagery.

Meteorologist Matthew Cappucci flew into the eye of Hurricane Melissa, the Category 5 storm that is projected to hit Jamaica. “It was equal parts scientifically stunning and horrifying from a humanitarian standpoint,” he wrote, flying in one of two groups of hurricane hunters. wapo.st/47au3On

Treasury put out a fairly open ended request for information on Stablecoins, privacy, and surveillance. We didn't pull our punches: 1. Stablecoins on public chains with traditional AML = CBDC style panopticon. 2. Treasury should encourage the issuance of stablecoins on privacy preserving chains, and the use of privacy tools like Privacy Pools on public chains. 3. Universal view keys for stablecoin issuance on privacy preserving chains recreates the panopticon problem. 4. For already regulated folks (like issuers) much good could be done by moving from traditional AML document collection to a verifiable credential and zero-knowledge proof based ID regime--Treasury should start developing pilots to encourage that transition. 5. Freeze and seize powers at stablecoin issuers will inevitably have issues with false positives--innocent Americans digitally debanked. These powers cannot constitutionally be used on Americans or their assets without a warrant.

A mysterious expert in submersibles was interviewed by the Coast Guard during the Titan investigation. His name is redacted, but we barely get into the interview before it becomes obvious who it is.
