John Lansing, NPR CEO, at the ⁦@MorningEdition⁩ meeting. NPR says it will de-emphasize Twitter. Aside from the misleading label, NPR says Twitter isn’t used by most Americans; drives little traffic to NPR; and “no longer has the public service relevance that it once had.”

NPR employees with personal accounts are told they may make their own decisions. I’ll take it day by day.

NPR will also continue de-emphasizing factual information

Can you see if you can get the NPR reporters to get off Twitter too? Evidently, it isn't used by most Americans, drives little traffic, and no longer has the public service relevance it once had.

The sad thing about the demise of Twitter is it's one of the last bastions of the written word. Notice how the dummies in the "do your research" crowd invariably mean *watching* (YouTube/TikTok/etc.) or *listening* (podcasts) instead of reading.

Sounds like NPR defining itself!

Weirdly most of us feel the same way about @npr.

I’ll be the hundredth person to say this, but @NPR, it’s shows, it’s affiliates, it’s staff, should joined #Mastodon, and where appropriate, set up #Mastodon instances. Would be a great way to engage in a truly independent way with the Internet-at-large and the #Fediverse.

What if you reported on this plague we’ve all been left to rot in instead of enabling this administration to abandon us?

Idk what npr is

I stopped listening to NPR when it’s Trump and Covid histrionics overshadowed the rest of the news.

Their leftist tilt will not be missed. This will help Twitter be more balanced.
Def true that it does not drive traffic.
It’s full of pathetic Elon fanbois now and run by a doughy dweeb with a 12-year-old’s sense of humor
🧵 I wish @NPR would set up its own mini-blogging-&-sharing app, (a subscription-based Twitter clone) and just let all the thinkers, writers, & journalists migrate there.

You people are all over Twitter announcing your departure. If you say people don't use Twitter in America, what is the point of multiple people from NPR carrying out an onslaught of tweets?

I think this is for the best, better for legitimate news organizations like NPR to officially distance themselves from what is quickly becoming a place where you cannot immediately verify the authenticity and legitimacy of posted content.

It's a great loss for those like me who are isolated by their disability and have found and created community on this site. So far none of the other sites have progressed enough to move over. I'm too old, too disabled, & too tired to build another community across several sites.

If you don't want to be affiliated with the state or government, maybe stop supporting every war, coupe, and sanctions that the government supports 🤔

Notice how this whole discussion is taking place on Twitter. 🤔

This simple fact of the matter is… Twitter is and always has been meant for those who intend to receive news in real time. I don’t think most users and ppl in general even realize this. It’s probably the most efficient way to find out what’s happening in the world…

Good for NPR. I won’t miss it on this site because it’s generally playing in my home and car. Support your local NPR station; it’s the best money you’ll ever spend.

How many people in that meeting vote Republican? How many have any Republican friends? Didn’t think so. THAT is the real problem, not government funding. Public broadcasters should represent the entire country, but they don’t.

Sad day for Twitter, one of the best things about it was the legitimate news sources

I've downloaded the NPR apps. But the ability to engage directly with so many NPR people I respect, appreciate (and, yeah: love) is terribly diminished as solid content and great people leave this space. Same goes for other NPR listeners' voices here--civil, humorous, informed.

Are you sure you didn’t get the names reversed? I know more Twitter users than NPR listeners… by a long shot.

There were three million people live for Elon’s BBC interview last night. Was that mentioned at all? Seems to conflict with the ‘not many people on the platform’ comment.

The line to exit Twitter must be very long because almost everyone who said they were leaving is still here.
