Gonna take a break from game dev to do some renovations in our new home. Here's a rough first sketch for the entrance hall. I've not done much physical painting before, and definitely nothing near this scale. Gonna be a fun steep learning curve

I really love drawing and painting. But I have a hard time doing it without a clear purpose. So feels really good to have a big whimsical concrete project on my hands

Some more design exploration, plus some test painting on a piece of scrap wood. The colors are much duller than what I'm going for, but that's what they had pre-mixed in small sample cans

My biggest test thus far. This time on an easel, to try painting upright. I feel like I spend a lot of time cleaning up egdes. I've got a decent steady hand, but the paint lives it's own inconsistent life on the brush tip. Maybe I should get a marker pen or something for cleanup?

As some suggested, I got myself an empty refillable pen to use with the same paint. Makes cleaning up lines a lot easier. I'll see if I can find one with a bigger container and more flow, as the paint is quite viscous. All in all, it feels like I've got a good workflow going

Some more style exploration on this. I'm thinking maybe there should be these thick totem pole bands going from wall to wall along the ceiling

Plus I painted this bathroom cabinet thing as another warmup

Further iterations on hallway design
The blank space is where some coat hangers and maybe a mirror will go

Theoretically, I should be able to project this on the wall and roof (perspective and all) if I match the projector position to a virtual camera position. I'll have to investigate this soon.

The projection actually works!

Yet another hallway design
My toddler has a long lasting three billy goats obsession, so l baked all three into a sort of goat god. You can see the troll splashing into the water below.

Opposite is a sort of german eagle, but with a floating eye, to make it sillier. It's a kungsörn (kings eagle), and at its shoulder is a kungsfågel (kings bird), the smallest bird in Sweden.

As a warmup, I tried painting with a projector in this project here. It worked quite well. Unlike doing a pencil sketch below, you don't cover up your sketch with your paint layers.

Thank you! It's been really fun coming up with these. It's not too different from doing stuff like upgrade icons in a video game
