Astronomers have captured a breathtaking image of a Jupiter-like planet forming around a young, Sun-like star. The planet, named WISPIT 2b, is still glowing with heat from its formation and is carving a huge gap in the multi-ringed disk of gas and dust around its star. This is the first time scientists have been able to directly observe a planet forming in such a complex disk, providing a real-time view of a process that occurred in our own solar system billions of years ago
