When you have
@ASIOgovAu inviting the media
@ABCnews inside their head office to film and interview, you know they want something.
As the story explained, what ASIO is lobbying for — and softening up the public & parliament for — is access to everyone’s encrypted communications.
They say it’s only to get the bad people, of course, but —
but it is including quite a few people like:
▪️Journalists receiving tips and leaks.
▪️Whistleblowers warning of government malfeasance.
▪️People who legally protest but somebody notable accuses them.
▪️Environmentalists annoying foreign companies.
▪️Lawyers defending security risks.
▪️Communities protesting AUKUS.
▪️Peaceniks briefly blockading a military base gate.
▪️People nominated by our chief foreign security partner as being ‘persons of interest’.
With so many of the citizenry negatively affected and unhappy with the idea, ASIO will have to keep lobbying, and hard, to win this one.
Because we still have a democracy👇
