Finally, we are about to have an expanded Atlantic Red Snapper season. Recent years have seen the Feds limit it to 1 or 2 days; now, working with the Trump administration, FL will be able to deliver 39 days in 2026 once state management is authorized. We did it in the Gulf and now we will do it in the Atlantic!
With over 4 million licensed anglers, Florida is the fishing capital of the world. Since Florida assumed state management of Gulf waters in 2018, we’ve expanded opportunities for anglers to fish for snapper in the Gulf year after year—and this year’s 127-day Gulf Red Snapper Recreational Season is the longest in history. But for too long, heavy-handed bureaucrats at NOAA Fisheries have shut off Florida anglers from the Atlantic red snapper harvest despite record abundance. The Trump Administration has taken bold steps to reverse decades of failed federal control and to empower state-led management. This morning in Fernandina Beach, I was pleased to announce that @MyFWC has submitted an Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP) to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to allow state management of the recreational red snapper fishery in federal waters. Taking control of Atlantic red snapper management puts Florida’s future back in our own hands by empowering our fishermen, protecting our waters, fueling our coastal economy, and strengthening the Free State of Florida.

This means so much to us on the east coast who love to fish. The red snapper by catch is insane. You cannot get past them bottom fishing and to be honest, the two days season was downright getting dangerous with people scrambling for one fish. Cant wait to take our son out for some this summer!!!

I never understood how the commerce department commandeered States recreational fishing management.

That is absolutely fantastic news Mr. DeSantis. Imagine all of the old fisherman that are gonna be able to relive a little bit of their youth, thats great news. So much of the news is what is wrong with the world, its nice to stop and appreciate when things are getting better

Awesome! More days to fish means more fun and support for our local anglers. Just hope they keep it sustainable!

Heck yeah! My husband who fishes recreational in the Atlantic will be thrilled! They are plentiful and he’s always having to throw them back.

Ron, are you even aware of the reason the season was so restricted? The Snapper were on the way to extinction!

Oh thank god I knew once we opened up Red Snapper season that homeowner's rates would go down. Always focused on what's important.

It makes way more sense to more strictly manage the commercial harvesters than the recreational anglers. Looking forward to taking advantage of a longer season.

Recreational fishing is not the issue, commercial is.

Am I the only Asian that doesn't like to eat fish but loves to fish? This is great!!! Will let friends and family know!

DeSantis works the details. That is how progress happens, one improvement after another. "Progressives" can't be bothered with details.

Next! Gag grouper season in the Gulf of America please!!! Season has always for years been 6 months. Two years ago decreased to 2 weeks! Absurd!!! Help Florida resident fishermen and charter Captains have a reasonable Gag grouper season!

Seems to be a good time to expand red snapper fishing season. Red snapper is good eating. The anglers I know help provide food for family and friends.

Most Red Snapper sold is fake. It's some other cheaper fishes.

Well in just a few years we will see how the red snapper population plays out Know with fisheries they have came back in numbers Was a reason certain fish are heavily regulated though Let’s see how this works out

And you’ll destroy the fishery just like you destroy everything else and then in a few years, I’ll be crying with the fishing season doesn’t exist
