Large meat packers are driving out small processors and producers, while inflating their own profits. Consumer demand and population has grown, but herd size is depressed while prices have risen dramatically over the last several decades. Food security is national security. Ahh- now here is debate worth having. Let's get a few Texas cattle ranchers and Tennessee ranchers on this debate. I think we all have a bone to pick with unfair trade practices. And why does Brazil get to import their beef at a lower price?

The NY Liberal @POTUS said last week that the cattle ranchers and farmers that raise cattle were at fault. At least this week he has updated information after his deal to flood the market with Argentinian cattle fell through. He has to admit one of his donors lied to him without admitting to it.

I’ve priced US beef directly from ranches, but it’s just too expensive with shipping. $16 for a steak and $12 a pound for hamburger isn’t competitive.

We need more local processing as well. It's too expensive and the regulatory burden is too much for much interest in starting them though. I want to buy local. Everyone should be able to buy from local ranchers, their neighbors.
