I worked on this film. You can't beat seeing a massive space opera like this in IMAX. The bottom pic is 2.35:1 aspect ratio, your standard letterbox that most theatrical movies exhibit in.

It's 1995: you see a movie in theaters because your 4:3 crt tv chops the edges of the widescreen frame. It's 2025: you pay double extra for the special 4:3 movie because your widescreen tv chops off the top and bottom of the frame.

Seems a good case for releasing on home media as 'full screen' as opposed to wide screen ratio.

@kdcloudy @iamshreytyagi is there a slight change in colour grade when you watch any movie on digital IMAX and 70mm IMAX? I mean, I have seen many photos where I felt a slight change in colours when we compared digital vs 70mm IMAX.

Isn't it great how we collectively transitioned to widescreen TVs after dealing with aspect ratio hell in the early days of home video only for NOW imax catches on as a popular format for mainstream Hollywood movies. Now it feels we abandoned square monitors in retrospect. 😕

Ridiculous that this still isn't on either physical media OR in HBO Max.

All because those assholes at IMAX won't allow anyone to release the full frame unless they pay them royalties. How did this happen? Why is one company controlling the aspect ratio of films? How did IMAX become the only way to use full frame?
