This just means that in advanced countries we read what we read on the internet rather than reading whatever irrelevant and long-winded refuse happens to be available locally. I recently visited two bookstores and they provided strong evidence that only midwit boomers and geezers are still reading a lot of books. The few bookstores that are left are full of the most awful garbage.

6% do not read here. That’s worng, no discussion. One could argue that no more than 6% are capable of reading a book and actually gaining anything from it.

That's the adult illiteracy rate in Arkansas - and the reading level among those who can read is basic skills. About half of adults in Arkansas either are illiterate or have basic reading skills. It's sobering.

What???? Talk about a failure. We are not a great nation if we cannot educate our people.

90% of the mfer's on this app only read the headlines of news articles so you can't expect them to open the occasional book. If they did read a book it would be Mein Kampf.

It is time we confront the public teachers unions on this issue.

I don't believe the Canada number because they have the highest education rating per capita.

That is a frightening graph, which in the case of the UK I find hard to believe, way back in the 1960's it was perhaps 3 in a class of 30 who had below 7 year old reading ability, this was in a time of austerity, but good teachers?

There was a time in my 73 years that America was in such high demand for the upper tier universities that many students, both foreign and domestic, were told sorry, maybe next year. America was the center for education with students and professors from all over the world.

Does only “reading” count or does it take into account audio books as well?

Does it? @grok what’s the average yearly salary of someone living in Brazil? How about the United States? I mean you read a lot more than I do Spence and you’re a lot more stupid.
Replying to @SpencerHakimian
As Brazilian I can guarantee that this is wrong. There is no chance 94% of people read. There is absolutelly no chance 50% of people are even capable of understanding any long term text.
