@OTOY Octane 2026 Alpha – Relighting Gaussian Splats 🌞 Just one sunflower splat, playfully arranged into a mini garden - all inside Octane. Lit with a daylight + area light. Nothing else quite like it.

What’s your favorite remote software? I’ve used nearly a dozen but by far I’ve always loved @anydesk I use it daily remoting from my laptops, my phone, and all my machines back and forth seamlessly. It’s the little things that make the most impact and having a great remote solution is super important 🤘🤘

If you haven’t played with the @OTOY LightStage assets yet - now’s a perfect time! I’ve been digging into them lately and the quality is fantastic! Plus there are more LightStage scans landing for Black Friday. OctaneStudio+ subscribers can grab everything from the OTOY Downloads page. And if you want a deeper dive on how to unpack, migrate to your DCC, or dial in skin shading, there is a full youtube video that covers everything! piped.video/watch?v=S30NS4be…
When Adobe is talking about splats.. then you know things are heating up! 🔥🔥🔥
If there's a tech giant that has an incredible use case for gaussian splatting, it would probably be @Adobe. Last week at Adobe MAX, they showed a “Sneak” of Project New Depths, which, in their own words, are “intuitive editing tools for radiance fields.”

Gaussian splatting for FOOH advertising - absolutely. 🔥🔥🔥 Next week I’ll show a workflow mixing static splat captures, CG dynamics, and even a 32-bit EXR HDRI generated directly from a 360° splat. You might be (you will be!) surprised how effective this use case can be.

Halloween came and went, and the pumpkins got soft, collapsed, and eventually ended up in the trash. But thanks to volumetric 3D capture, the moment doesn’t have to. Before they turned to mush, I scanned them into a full Gaussian Splat scene. Now this little lineup lives on as an interactive 3D asset I can revisit, reuse, or even pair with next year’s carvings. It’s a simple example, but it shows how quickly real-world memories can turn into lightweight digital assets - something far more flexible than a photo or video, and a lot more fun to build with. From a few seconds of capture on my iPhone - to a fully spatial immortal asset!

Gaussian Splatting is pretty wild. Being able to take dense collections of assets and package them into fast, real-time splats opens up a ton of new possibilities for look-dev, previs, and interactive scenes. For this test, I built a pile of 400 skulls - roughly 40+ million polygons (and over 400 8K texture instances) - rendered out a 600 frame dataset on @rendernetwork with @OTOY OctaneRender and then converted the result into a single splat asset. Now it runs in real-time as one compact Gaussian Splat.
Amazing quality assets!

This is something I always prefer to do myself in 3D, BUT if you're wanting to simply fold and get there a bit more quickly, check out Project Fantastic Fold from Adobe, it's a nice carton folding program you can import SVGs and interactively build into a 3D asset fantasticfold.com/

There’s still a massive opportunity for artists in 3D packaging visualization. When you start with dielines from Illustrator, you can build accurate prototypes that stay true to the designer’s intent. Converting those dielines into planes and using the folds as guides helps you retopologize cleanly and understand how the structure comes together. It’s a technique that removes the guesswork. You can work directly with design teams, apply artwork precisely, and prototype in real scale and quickly. It also gives you a real understanding of how different materials and substrates behave when rendered or lit. What’s missing in much of today’s AI-generated work is that attention to detail. Accuracy and brand equity often get lost in the process, and that’s something 3D can protect. That’s why imo 3D has such a high ceiling. It’s accurate, consistent, and flexible. It connects naturally with 2D pipelines and can evolve into full production-ready workflows that scale.
