Stranger rapes 12-year-old girl in Brooklyn public housing stairwell, cops say trib.al/Pi9F3SK

Police have arrested a man in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl in a Brooklyn NYCHA apartment building. Eric McMichael, 27, was taken into custody around 3:35 p.m. Friday and charged with rape, burglary, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. According to police, his listed address is in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. Investigators said the child was ambushed Thursday walking into the Cooper Park Houses, a public housing complex in East Williamsburg. The attacker grabbed the girl and raped her in a stairwell before he fled the scene near Morgan Avenue and Skillman Avenue just before 6 p.m. McMichael has four prior convictions, according to police, including a rape in 2019. He was also convicted of burglary that same year, plus grand larceny and robbery in 2023. Via combined sources.

In 2019 the NY state legislature passed new rent laws they claimed would make New York rents affordable or at least prevent them from getting worse. It’s destroyed the housing in rent-stabilized buildings while rents in free market units have spiked. All of these results were predicted and the response has been to double and triple down on the same policies while blaming property owners. It’s clearly working politically. Its not working for renters. It isn’t just that the policies are making it impossible to operate housing in New York for rent stabikized owners… it’s that they aren't even delivering the affordability they claim.
