Under Trumpism, access to opportunity, justice, and even truth is filtered through ideological and racial gatekeeping. Merit is replaced by loyalty, expertise by obedience, and accountability by vengeance. Power circulates within a narrow elite of political loyalists, corporate donors, and right-wing media figures who feed off polarization to maintain control.
Stephen Miller’s racist remark about “becoming the third world” misses the reality that Trumpism is what is actually driving America toward that state. It is eroding the rule of law, undermining institutional independence, and concentrating power and privilege in the hands of the few. That is the very definition of a limited access order: one where inclusion is conditional and democracy exists only in name.
What used to be an open republic has been reengineered into a patronage system wrapped in nationalist rhetoric. The result is an America that still calls itself “free” while functioning like a gated state, open in appearance but closed in practice.
