In both images she’s literally holding Jesus. In the one it’s the Pieta, holding Jesus after the cross, and the other it’s baby Jesus.

In Judaism the mother is the one responsible for inculcating values. Jesus demonstrably showed respect for his mother's wishes in the Gospels. Mortals ask her to intercede on their behalf as they know she had influence in her time on earth.........
